Cockshutt Plant News

Cockshutt also published a company newspaper throughout the course of the war, with some of the clippings shown in this exhibit being taken from the Cockshutt Plant News. This newspaper kept employees updated on company related events, news about local people overseas, the war effort, and much more. In one such issue, an article highlighted the Allen family, who had recently been allotted a wartime house in Brantford after months of living in a trailer. This feel-good story highlights the housing which was provided to support the influx of new employees to the company. These types of articles helped the various departments of Cockshutt feel connected with each other and help make employees featured in articles feel valued.

Two volumes of the Cockshutt Plant News from 1943 and 1944 are available for purchase on the CIHC’s website, providing readers with a look into the culture, interests, and personality of the men and women who made up Canada’s aircraft industry during the Second World War.
