Introduction to Brantford's Chinese Community

Brantford's Chinese community came into being at the turn of the century. The first Chinese immigrant to Brantford arrived in 1885, and by 1921 the Chinese population in the city had grown to 140.  Today Brantford boasts a thriving Chinese community of over 500 people. But who were the early immigrants to Brantford, and what are their stories?

This exhibit aims to, for the first time in Brantford's history, shine a light on those who toiled in obscurity to provide clean laundry for the whole city, and the local Chinese restaurant proprietors who brought Chinese food and the use of chopsticks into the broader Brantford community.
